Whistleblowers preview movie drama "The Whistleblower"

David Hutton – August 25, 2011

It was a slightly surreal scene – a group of real-life whistleblowers gathered in the safety and comfort of the World Exchange movie theatre to watch a gritty drama about another real-life whistleblower who faced appalling danger.

FAIR organized this get-together and we interviewed the group afterwards to get their reactions – a different perspective from the average person, who has never experienced institutional cover-up and reprisals first hand. Watch the interviews below (10 minutes).

The Whistleblower is based on the true story of Kathryn Bolkovac, a former Nebraska policewoman working for the UN in Bosnia who uncovers the brutal trafficking of young girls into forced prostitution.

When she goes into action to stop this trade and rescue the girls, her way is blocked at every turn – by corrupt local police, by other UN workers who are involved, and by senior UN officials trying to prevent a scandal.
